A strange attractor is a pattern that appears chaotic, random in both trajectory and purpose, until seen from the right perspective. (Kim Falconer, in the foreword to Strange Attractors.

Readers expect the unexpected!

Rosette is dropped out of the portal into the middle of raging battle. Before she and Drayco can escape, Teg is injured and the Sword Master imprisoned. The glamour she spins to rescue her father sets in motion a series of events that may sunder Earth and Gaela forever. Unknown to all, the corridors hide their greatest threat, weaving magic so tight that even Kreshkali can′t see it. A battle ensues and the fabric of the many-worlds starts to unravel. Earth is in its death throes and hard choices must be made…

The Quantum Enchantment series concludes in this action-packed, character-driven story that ties up most loose ends and provides a lead-in for the next trilogy. Falconer’s Strange Attractors weaves many disparate threads: fantasy with astrology, with quantum physics, with genetics and some "hard" science and some speculative science. This book is slightly different in tone and style from the first two, in that there is far more attention to characters and relationships, since the philosophy behind strange attractors is just about that — relationships and synchronicity. Whether that seemingly random meeting/relationship is human, non-human or with one’s surrounding environment, when viewed with the right mind set, there is nothing “random” about it — a belief that may unsettle some people. Falconer switches quickly between worlds and character relationships within the book chapters, which, at first, can be disconcerting if one prefers to settle in and have a long scene/chapter with a single protagonist. But there is nothing random about the selection of characters and their actions, nor the omniscient Entity and I suspect the placement of action within a chapter also has not been haphazard.

There are some excellent scenes in this book that will have readers gripping the novel, white-knuckled. Of particular note was the battle in which Rosette shape-shifts with blurring speed into a myriad of creatures in order to save Drayco, and her other friends. This is a heart-in-the-mouth moment where the reader is fully engaged in the scene and its outcome.

With the conclusion of this trilogy, it is interesting to see that a young cat prepares the way for future events, and with Shaea’s fate uncertain, and Nell and An’ Lawrence left behind on earth to face annihilation, it is obvious that Falconer has many more stories to tell.

Fans won’t have long to wait!
