Mini-assessments
|
18 July 2011
Have you written a novel or non-fiction piece? Do you want a professional opinion without it costing a week's pay? The Specusphere's team of editors are experienced reviewers and editors of fantasy, science fiction and other genres. We offer mini-assessments for AUD$70 and the price for longer editing projects will be negotiated on a per-project basis.
Send in a synopsis of your manuscript and the first twenty pages (or to the nearest scene break) and after reading them, we'll let you know if we think the work is ready for editing. We don't encourage people to sign up for editing too early because they'd be wasting their money. If we think that's the case we'll offer you a mini-assessment, in which one of our editors comment on your plot (that's why we need a synopsis) and the first few pages of your manuscript. We'll also give you some ideas to work on. A mini-assessment costs only AUD$70.00 and we can usually get a fair idea of what your work is like from the synopsis and the first 20 pages.
$70 Mini-assessments entail:
- Reading the synopsis and a segment no greater than the first twenty pages
- Commenting on strengths and weaknesses in the piece, including writing style, voice, tense, point of view, cohesion, punctuation, spelling, grammar, characterisation, plot
- Advice regarding steps to take to enhance the work for publishing
What to do next
Either:
1. Send in your synopsis and first twenty pages so a Specusphere editor can talk through the best editing option for you; OR
2. Buy your $70 mini-assessment now (if you are sure this is what you require):
Payments can be made through PayPal, direct credit or cheque. As soon as payment is received, one of our editors will contact you and request the first fifty pages of your manuscript and your synopsis. Alternatively, you may email it straight away to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

For Writers
Writers are encouraged to submit articles and reviews as per our submission guidelines. There are many articles in our 'For Writers' section on various aspects of writing and publishing. The Specusphere's is also running its own publication projects, commencing in 2011 with our first anthology, about myths and legends.
